Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

A strengthened and revitalised global partnership is vital to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 17UNCTAD is the focal point within the United Nations system for the integrated treatment of Trade (Targets 17.10 - 17.12) and development and interrelated issues in the areas of Finance (Targets 17.1 - 17.5), Technology (Targets 17.6 - 17.8), investment and sustainable development.

One of the key pillars of UNCTAD's integrated approach is technical cooperation and Capacity Building (Target 17.9), helping Member States formulate inclusive and sustainable development strategies.

For more than fifty years, UNCTAD research and analysis has been the driving force pushing Systemic Issues (Targets 17.13 - 17.15) to the top of the development agenda.

A wealth of experience reaching out to the private sector business community and civil society make UNCTAD a key supporter of the Multistakeholder Partnerships (Targets 17.16 - 17.17), which will be needed to achieve the SDGs, through platforms for inclusive dialogue, such as UNCTAD's World Investment Forum, and Civil Society Forum.

UNCTAD is also a key player in international cooperation on trade and investment statistics, providing a wealth of evidence for policy making and improved capacity for Data and Monitoring (Targets 17.18 - 17.19).
