The Economic Development in Africa Report 2013 subtitled "Intra-African Trade: Unlocking Private Sector Dynamism" focuses on how to strengthen the private sector to boost intra-African trade. It also examines the challenges for intra-African trade posed by non-implementation of regional trade agreements and provides new insights into how to enhance implementation of existing regional agreements.

UNCTAD South–South Trade Monitor No. 2 reports on general trends with regard to the magnitude and dynamics of South–South exports, and their sectoral composition. South–South merchandise exports in 2011 reached US$4 trillion, or a quarter of the world’s exports. In the past two decades, all developing regions have significantly increased their exports to the South.

UNCTAD’s 2013 Economic Development in Africa Report entitled “Intra-Africa Trade: Unlocking Private Sector Dynamism” was launch by the Africa Union Commissioner of Economic Affairs, Ambassador Mothae Anthony Maruping and the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr Eugene Owusu. They were joined by Mr Taffere Tesfachew, Director, Division for Africa, LDCs and Special Programmes, UNCTAD.
