China pilot-tests UNCTAD's Accountancy Development Toolkit03 Jul - A stakeholder meeting in Beijing last Friday (29 June) discussed the results of China's pilot test-run of the Accountancy Development Toolkit developed by UNCTAD. Participants confirmed the usefulness of the toolkit and the assessment exercise for China. Joint UNCTAD-WTO handbook on trade policy analysis launched03 Jul - A Practical Guide to Trade Policy Analysis, co-published by the WTO and UNCTAD's Virtual Institute has been launched. WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy and UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi describe it as a "state-of-the-art" tool for policy analysis and a contribution to a more level playing field in trade relations. Competition policy week: 9-13 July 201203 Jul - UNCTAD will be hosting a number of expert meetings next week to discuss the role of competition policy in promoting economic development and cooperation. The organization is the United Nations focal point on all work related to competition and consumer policies. UNGA programme and coordination committee supportive of UNCTAD work02 Jul - The UN General Assembly's Committee for Programme and Coordination (CPC) held its 52nd session from 4 to 29 June to consider the proposed Strategic Framework of the United Nations for the period 2014-2015. Programme 10 (Trade and Development) of the Strategic Framework was considered in a formal session on 12 June (attended through videoconference by the Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD) and in an informal session on 21 June where UNCTAD staff from its New York liaison office and the Resources Management Service in Geneva were present to answer questions. Workshop being held in Lesotho on services trade negotiations02 Jul - The Government of Lesotho, in collaboration with the SADC (Southern African Development Community) Secretariat and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), with the support of UNCTAD, is organizing a National Seminar on Trade in Services Negotiations from 2 to 4 July in Maseru, Lesotho. UNCTAD says goodbye to head of Creative Economy Programme01 Jul - Ms. Edna dos Santos-Duisenberg, chief of UNCTAD's Creative Economy Programme, who headed and managed the programme since 2004, one of the very first organizational structures inside and outside the United Nations devoted to creative industry and economy, has retired from the United Nations beginning of July upon reaching mandatory retirement age after 29 years of service.
