James Zhan Director of the Investment and Enterprise DivisionJames Zhan is Director of the Investment and Enterprise Division at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The Division (with about 100 staff) conducts extensive policy research, builds international consensus among 193 countries, and provides technical assistance to over 150 governments. The key products and services under his direction include the World Investment Forum, the Global FDI-TNC Information System, the Investment Advisory Series, the Investment Trends and Policy Monitors, Investment Policy Reviews, business facilitation and investment promotion compact, international investment agreements, international standards for accounting and reporting, entrepreneurship policy advice and training, global value chains and SMEs-TNCs linkages, corporate governance and social responsibilities, Sustainable Stock Exchanges and intellectual property.

Mr. Zhan is also team leader of the annual UNCTAD World Investment Report, and chief editor of the journal Transnational Corporations.

Mr Zhan has 26 years of international and national experience in the areas of investment, trade, technology, enterprise development and business linkages. He has published over 80 articles and books on economic and legal issues. He holds a PhD in international economics, and was research fellow at Oxford University. He is guest professor at Nankai University, China; member of Academic and Policy Advisory Board of Centre for international Business and Management at Cambridge University, UK; and member of the Advisory Board for the International Investment Centre at Columbia University, USA.
