Development Account Project 1617J: Informal cross-border trade for empowerment of women, economic development and regional integration in Eastern and Southern Africa

The project aims to strengthen national capacities in Malawi, the United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia to leverage informal cross-border trade (ICBT) for the empowerment of women, economic development and regional integration.

Through new analyses and capacity-building activities, the intervention tackles two issue areas:

  1. how to address the complexity and opacity of trade barriers to ICBT, in a context of multiple overlapping trade arrangements; and
  2. how to accommodate the specificities of ICBT, especially women, when designing and implementing suitable supply side services that support cross-border trade flows.
