Seminar on E-Commerce, SMEs and Development: the perspectives for and strategies of Latin American countries

18 - 19 February 2013
Ecumenical Institute at Bossey
Geneva
, Switzerland

Initiated by the Permanent Missions of Cuba and Ecuador, a seminar on e-Commerce, SMEs and Development is organized for Latin American countries on 18-19 February 2013. The meeting is financially supported by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation.

The theme of the seminar is highly topical and important: how to enable small and medium sized enterprises in Latin America to take greater advantage of electronic commerce and how to reap development benefits from such activities.

The meeting will allow country representatives to listen to and discuss with experts from UNCTAD, ITC, other international organizations, such as ITU and UPU, as well as representatives from the private sector. It will also be a valuable occasion for sharing of experiences.

UNCTAD has actively explored the development aspects of e-commerce since 1998. Since 2007, its Division on Technology and Logistics has been providing technical assistance to Latin America in this field thanks to the support of the Government of Spain.

Some 800 public and private sector representatives in Latin America have been trained through distance learning and face-to-face deliveries of a training course specifically addressing the legal aspects of e-commerce.
