The study tour is organized by the UNCTAD Virtual Institute (Vi) at the request of the University of Dar es Salaam Business School, United Republic of Tanzania, as one of the Vi services for its member universities.
During one week, students from the university will undergo tailored training on trade and development delivered by UNCTAD's divisions and programmes, the WTO, the ITC, and the Permanent Mission of the Tanzania to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.
The topics covered during the tour will comprise a variety of development issues of particular relevance to Africa and Tanzania. The presentations will cover issues such as the economic role of the state in developing countries; the development of productive capacities; industrial development; structural transformation; science, technology and innovation; and business linkage. The students will also hear about regional economic integration and trade, and, among the most recent topics, the impact of international crises and the recent commodity boom on developing countries and LDCs in particular.
