A first joint ASEAN/UNCTAD Preparatory Workshop on the Review of E-commerce Laws Harmonization in ASEAN will be held in Cebu, giving senior officials of the ASEAN an opportunity to discuss advances and remaining challenges in adopting and enforcing e-commerce legislation, as well as new legal and regulatory issues rising from evolving technologies and applications, such as cloud computing and m-commerce.

There will be a presentation of findings of two online surveys on existing legal frameworks for e-commerce activities that were recently launched by UNCTAD and ASEAN.

The outcome of the workshop will be reported to the 12th ASEAN Telecommunications and IT Ministers Meeting (TELMIN) and Senior Official Meeting (TELSOM) in Cebu from 12 to 16 November.

The findings of the Workshop will also be reflected in the Review of E-commerce Laws Harmonization in ASEAN, which will propose policy recommendations for the ASEAN to support the implementation of the ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2015 and the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.

The workshop is being organized as part of UNCTAD’s work programme on E-commerce and Law Reform in the ICT Analysis Section, Science, Technology and ICT Branch of the Division on Technology and Logistics.

UNCTAD’s work programme on E-commerce and Law Reform is supported by the Government of Finland.
