The Tanzanian national stakeholder meeting was organized by the Tanzanian Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM) in collaboration with the Tanzanian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Cooperatives and the UNEP-UNCTAD Capacity Building Task Force on Trade, Environment and Development (CBTF). The event took place on the 28th of August, 2009 at the Blue Pearl Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The meeting gave an overview of recent national and international developments in research, education and training, production, trade and marketing, quality standards and policies on organic agriculture. Needs of and challenges for different stakeholders were discussed. In addition, the National Organic Agriculture Development Programme (NOADP) for 2009 - 2015 was launched. The proposed action plan to implement the programme was presented, discussed, and amended. The meeting especially focused on ways to up-scale organic agriculture research, training and extension so as to provide technical support to existing and emerging organic operators (exporters and producers).
