Over the course of two weeks, 27 post-graduate students from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) will meet and discuss ideas with experts in the field of International Trade, Investment and Development.
Forty distinguished speakers will be participating in this two-week programme, including 20 from UNCTAD. The UNCTAD staff involved represent all areas of UNCTAD´s work. The study tour will also include discussions and meetings with other international organizations, NGOs and private sector companies including the Brazilian Mission and Canadian Mission, the International Trade Centre, NESTLE, NOVARTIS, OXFAM, UNHCR, the World Health Organization and the World Trade Organization.
The aim of the study tour is to provide students with insight into the policy making process and with a greater understanding of trade and development issues. The tour is the culmination of an innovative Economic Diplomacy course pioneered by Professor Mario Presser at UNICAMP. The course provies a policy-orientated training to post-graduate and professional level students from both the public and private sector so that they can be better equipped to contribute to the ongoing agenda of bilateral, regional and multilateral trade negotiations. The course combines selected local content with training materials and expertise provided by UNCTAD.
The Economic Diplomacy Course, was launched with UNCTAD´s support in 2003 and UNICAMP is one of the founding members of UNCTAD´s Virtual Institute.
