UNCTAD participates in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) to support developing countries to take advantage of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for economic development.
UNCTAD helps governments:
ICTs and the Internet link economies and offer unprecedented opportunities for developing countries. ICTs provide networking solutions, encourage new ways to do business and help spread knowledge. For example, ICTs multiply trade opportunities in particularly important sectors such as tourism. Customs clearance and trade procedures are simplified and made faster. Businesses automate processes to increase their efficiency and productivity. The Internet helps investors identify opportunities in less known markets. Commodity producers find and match price information. And trade knowledge is shared through distance learning and networks.
UNCTAD is in stand 1307.2 at the ICT4All Exhibition during the WSIS.
