The Silk Road Investment Forum is organized by members of the UN Silk Road Initiative (SRI) - UNDP, UNCTAD and UNWTO (Tourism) - in cooperation with the government of China, the BOAO Forum for Asia and the China Group Companies Promotion Association.
The SRI is a regional programme involving: China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The programme´s overarching goal is to help the region meet the Millennium Development Goals of reducing poverty and promoting growth and equality. More specifically, the Initiative works to:
Improve policy and legal conditions for trade
Initiate and attract investment
Promote and attract tourism
UNCTAD is UNDP´s main partner is organizing the first "Silk Road Investment Forum" to raise awareness about investment opportunities, facilitate business partnerships, and create public-private sector partnerships for an improved business environment in the new business frontiers of the Silk Road Region.
UNCTAD also created the conceptual framework of the forum, aiming at promoting regional investment promotion beyond the national level.
