Key Issues

Tourism is rapidly becoming one of the main source of foreign exchange earnings in the least developed countries.  However, the economic impact of international tourism remains relatively low.

The purpose of this forum is to highlight the importance of creating a sound institutional and entrepreneurial environment that is conducive to the development of the tourism industry in LDCs.

The dual objective of the meeting is to:

  • Highlight the prospects for tourism development in LDCs
  • Discuss policy options for institutional strengthening and entrepreneurship toward tourism development in LDCs
Discussions will focus on:
  • International tourism in African LDCs: performance and challenges

  • Strengthening institutional capacities

  • Encouraging entrepreneurship in the tourism economy

The meeting will include presentations of country cases, including inter alia:

  • Angola
  • Cambodia
  • Mali
  • Senegal
  • Uganda
  • Yemen
