Key Issues

In order to assist developing countries in the long and complex negotiation process preceding WTO accession, UNCTAD undertakes advisory missions to help build local capacity in the area of trade policy.

The main objective is to help acceding countries join the WTO on terms that are consistent with their levels of development.

The specific goals of this mission to Bhutan were:

  • to assist government officials in a review of several accession-related documents; and
  • to discuss the accession process with the government.
