Notification

The conference is a pre-event of the twelfth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XII), which will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 20 to 25 April 2008.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Energy Planning Agency of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil are jointly organizing a conference on "Biofuels: An option for a less carbon-intensive economy", which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 4 to 5 December 2007.

It will discuss the following main topics:

  • Climate change as a development challenge

  • Overview of the global biofuels market

  • Relevant trade and sustainable development aspects of the biofuels market

  • Recommendations for UNCTAD XII

Participation

The conference should be of particular interest to government officials and representatives of the private sector dealing with the energy, technology, agriculture and trade sectors.
