Room XXVI, Palais des Nations

Key Issues

UNCTAD and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) are organizing a joint conference under the theme "Corporate Governance in the Wake of the Financial Crisis".

Over the past 12 months, the pace of rulemaking in the area of corporate governance and disclosure has increased dramatically, largely driven by responses to the financial crisis. Now, more than ever, there is a new appreciation for the need to align governance with long term business strategy and social, economic and environmental sustainability.

What role does the accounting profession play?

Participants will address the critical link between corporate governance and the accountancy profession by developing universal approaches for reforms on a global level.

A series of expert panels and interactive discussions will address the following questions:

  • What lessons have the global financial crisis revealed about corporate governance?

  • What corporate governance reforms should be developed on a global level and why?

  • Whom should the accounting profession partner with to achieve lasting results?
