Workshop on Harmonization and Equivalence on Organic Agriculture in Asia
27 - 29 May 2010
Biofach China 2010, INTEX
Shanghai

Key Issues

The workshop is organized in the framework of the UNCTAD/FAO/IFOAM Global Organic Market Access (GOMA) project, which aims to support market access and reduce trade barriers for organic agricultural products through harmonization, equivalence and other forms of cooperation on standards and conformity assessment.

A main focus of GOMA is on the rapidly developing organic sectors in East, South-East and South Asia.

At the Organic Asia Conference in 2008, UNCTAD and partners were asked to facilitate the development of an Asian regional market for organic products. The workshop will kick-start this process.

It will bring together high-level government officials and key private sector representatives to network and form strategies for a regional organic market that functions efficiently through harmonization, equivalence and public-private cooperation.

The workshop will be held in conjunction with BioFach China, which will afford participants an opportunity to see this rapidly expanding organic agriculture trade show and to participate in the BioFach Conference and VIP events on 27 May 2010.
