In the framework of All ACP Agricultural Commodities Programme financed by European Commission, UNCTAD is responsible for the implementation of the project on the development of financing mechanism for gum Arabic sector in Mali.
As the first step of this project, a feasibility study was commissioned by UNCTAD. The study analyzed current financing situation in gum Arabic sector in Mali and proposed a financing mechanism based on warehouse receipt systems.
The workshop aims to validate the feasibility study and define the preconditions and concrete steps to develop inventory credit and warehouse receipt based financing mechanism in Mali. The experience of other countries in the region in using such financing mechanism will be shared. The workshop will also build the capacity of participants on warehouse receipt and inventory credit systems and enhance the synergies with other on-going initiatives in the gum Arabic sector in Mali, in particular the integration of the validated financing mechanism in the gum Arabic sector strategy.
The workshop will bring together the representatives of the government of Mali, financial institutions, main stakeholders of gum Arabic sector, development partners, warehouse receipt and inventory credit experts and other partners interested in the issue of gum Arabic financing in Mali.
