Workshop on International Investment Agreements: Issues of relevance for the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Key Issues

The Workshop on IIAs is organized by the UNCTAD Virtual Institute (Vi), a programme of the Knowledge Sharing, Training and Capacity Development Branch in the Division on Technology and Logistics, at the request of its member in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa University, as one of Vi services in support to the development of teaching capacities of Ethiopian academia.

It is funded by the Government of Finland and delivered by UNCTAD´s Division on Investment and Enterprise Development.

The workshop, covering IIA issues of relevance for Ethiopia, is structured around the following two modules:

  • The economic environment of foreign investment: overview of FDI and its effects on development

  • Issues and fundamental concepts relevant to the analysis and the negotiation of international investment agreements

A session will also be dedicated to consultations with workshop participants on the integration of workshop material into university courses.

25 participants from Ethiopian universities, as well as the Ethiopian Investment Agency, will attend the workshop to enhance their knowledge on IIAs and establish contacts and potential working relationships among academics and policymakers.
