The workshop is organized by the UNCTAD Virtual Institute (Vi) at the request of its member in Tanzania, the University of Dar es Salaam Business School, as one of Vi services in support to the development of teaching capacities of Tanzanian academics.
It is funded by the Government of Finland and delivered by UNCTAD´s Division for Africa, LDCs and Special Programmes.
The workshop, covering industrial development issues of relevance to African countries and in particular LDCs, is structured around four modules:
- Industrial development in theory and practice
- Industrial policy: national dimension
- Industrial policy: regional and international dimensions
- A national industrial policy for Tanzania
In addition to presentation/discussion sessions, workshop participants will work on the development of elements for an industrial policy for their country, which they will present on the last day of the workshop.
A session will also be dedicated to consultations with workshop participants on the integration of workshop material into university courses.
36 participants, both lecturers from the University of Dar es Salaam Business School, and students of its professional Master in International Trade programme, will attend the workshop to enhance their knowledge of industrial policy and development.
