Workshop on panel data methods applied to international trade

Key Issues

The workshop, funded by the Government of Finland, is delivered at the request of the Vi member in Uganda, the Makerere University Business School, as one of Vi services in support to the development of research and teaching capacities of Ugandan academics.

The workshop is structured around the following eight modules:

  • Introduction to data management with Stata
  • Model estimation with Stata I
  • Introduction to panel data models
  • Linear static models for panel data
  • The gravity model of international trade
  • Model estimation with Stata II
  • Linear dynamic models for panel data
  • Model estimation with Stata II

36 participants from Ugandan universities (Makerere University Business School, Makerere University College of Business and Management Sciences), research institutes (Economic Policy Research Centre), as well as the government (Bank of Uganda, Uganda Revenue Authority, etc.) will attend the workshop to enhance their knowledge of panel data methods and establish contacts and potential working relationships among academics and policymakers.

The workshop on panel data methods applied to international trade is jointly organized by the UNCTAD Virtual Institute (Vi), a programme of the Knowledge Sharing, Training and Capacity Development Branch in the Division on Technology and Logistics, and the Division on International Trade in Goods and Services and Commodities.
