The sixteenth session of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) is scheduled to be held from 17 to 19 February 1999, at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, and will commence at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, 17 February.
The meeting is being convened on the basis of a decision taken by the Commission on Investment, Technology and Related Financial Issues. During this session, experts will discuss the global accounting curriculum, professional education and other qualification requirements for professional accountants, global certification and accreditation systems. The provisional agenda, together with the secretariat´s annotations thereto, has been circulated as document TD/B/COM.2/ISAR/4.
To facilitate the discussions, the UNCTAD secretariat has prepared two reports:
- "Guideline for a global accounting curriculum and other qualification requirements" (TD/B/COM.2/ISAR/5); and
- "Global curriculum for the professional education of professional accountants" (TD/B/COM.2/ISAR/6).
Member States of UNCTAD are requested to submit to the UNCTAD secretariat by 1 February 1999 the names of the experts who will participate in the session. As the main agenda item of the sixteenth session is the global curriculum and qualification requirements, it would be very beneficial if member States nominated experts who are in charge of accounting and auditing standard-setting in their countries, as well as experts who are responsible for setting the professional requirements for accountants. At previous sessions, experts have come from both government and professional associations and organizations and have been responsible for formulating accounting standards in their respective countries. United Nations bodies and programmes, specialized agencies, and intergovernmental bodies, should they wish to participate in the session, as well as non-governmental organizations in the general category and those in the special category which wish to participate as observers, are requested to inform UNCTAD secretariat of the names of their representatives by the same date.
Communications concerning representation at the session should be sent to the UNCTAD secretariat, Intergovernmental Support Services, Palais des Nations, CH-1211 Geneva 10, (fax: +41 22 907 0056; e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org). All enquiries should be addressed to the Secretary of the Meeting (tel: +41 22 907 5797).
