The Expert Meeting on Clustering and Networking for SME Development is to be held from 2 to 4 September 1998. The Meeting will open at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, 2 September 1998.
The provisional agenda, together with the secretariat´s annotations thereto, is being circulated as document TD/B/COM.3/EM.5/1.
Further to paragraph 114 of "A Partnership for Growth and Development" (TD/378/Rev.1) adopted by UNCTAD IX, experts should be nominated by Governments and should have proven experience in promoting effective Government/private-sector interaction, including in respect of the achievement of policy coherence and the establishment of effective support structures and services for SMEs. They will serve the Expert Meeting in their personal capacities. Participation in expert meetings can be from the academic world, public and private sectors and NGOs.
With regard to documentation, the UNCTAD secretariat has prepared a paper to facilitate the experts´ discussions, circulated under the symbol TD/B/COM.3/EM.5/2. Experts attending the Meeting are encouraged to prepare brief papers as inputs to the Meeting, and such papers will be made available to other participants in the form and language in which they are received.
States members of UNCTAD wishing to nominate experts to the Meeting are requested to do so by 21 August 1998. Specialized agencies and intergovernmental bodies, should they wish to participate in the Meeting, as well as non-governmental organizations in the General Category and those in the Special Category which wish to participate as observers, are requested to inform the UNCTAD secretariat of the names of their representatives by the same date.
