Pursuant to a request by the International Jute Council, transmitted to the Secretary-General of UNCTAD in a letter dated 30 January 2001 from the Officer-in-Charge of the International Jute Organization (IJO), and in accordance with the calendar of UNCTAD meetings for 2001, the United Nations Conference on Jute and Jute Products, 2001, will be held on 12 and 13 March 2001. The Conference is scheduled to open at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, at 10 a.m. on Monday, 12 March 2001.
The Conference is being held for the purpose of negotiating and adopting the Terms of Reference of the International Jute Study Group. The provisional agenda is being circulated as document TD/JUTE.4/1 and the provisional rules of procedure as document TD/JUTE.4/2. The draft text of the Terms of Reference of the International Jute Study Group is being circulated as document TD/JUTE.4/3.
States members of UNCTAD that wish to participate in the Conference are requested to submit to the UNCTAD secretariat before 28 February 2001 the credentials of their representatives and the names of alternate representatives and advisers. Specialized agencies and international organizations that wish to participate in the Conference as observers are also requested to inform the UNCTAD secretariat before 28 February 2001 of the names of their representatives.
