On behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of UNCTAD is reconvening the United Nations Cocoa Conference, 2000, from 26 February to
2 March 2001. The Conference is scheduled to resume in Conference room XXVI at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, at 10 a.m. on Monday, 26 February 2001.
The Conference agenda is contained in document TD/COCOA.9/1 and the rules of procedure in documents TD/COCOA.9/2 and 3. The basic negotiating document for the Conference, reproducing a draft text of a new agreement prepared by the International Cocoa Council, has been circulated under the symbol TD/COCOA.9/R.1.
Special attention is drawn to a resolution of the Conference dated 24 November 2000, contained in document TD/COCOA.9/5. The annex to this resolution contains information on the status of the articles of a successor agreement as of 24 November 2000. In this connection, attention is also drawn to documents TD/COCOA.9/L.1 and 2 and TD/COCOA.9/CRP.1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
States members of UNCTAD which wish to participate in the second part of the Conference, or wish to designate observers to the Conference, are requested to submit to the UNCTAD secretariat by 23 February 2001 the credentials of their representatives and the names of alternate representatives and advisers. Where the representatives will be the same as at the first part of the Conference, the States concerned will not need to issue new credentials. They are requested, however, to inform the UNCTAD secretariat of the composition of their delegations by the same date. Specialized agencies and international organizations which wish to participate in the Conference as observers are also requested to inform the UNCTAD secretariat by 23 February 2001 of the names of their representatives.
