The Division focuses on the poorest and most vulnerable developing countries in the world. Specifically, it aims to increase understanding of the development problems of Africa and the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), as well as countries with specific geographical impediments, notably Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The Division proposes policies for actions to support inclusive and sustainable development.
Over 90 developing countries fall under the Division's areas of work.
As part of the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF), which is an action-oriented and multi-donor-led Aid-for-Trade initiative for LDCs, UNCTAD is assisting The Gambia to tackle production and supply-side constraints to trade.
UNCTAD was invited to attend the first National Policy Dialogue on the development of creative/entertainment industries in Nigeria held last month in Lagos to identify challenges and develop a roadmap going forward in the context of the Nigerian Vision 2020 and the UN Millennium Development Goals.
