UNCTAD and EMPRETEC contribute to Geneva celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week

Geneva, Switzerland, 12 November 2012

UNCTAD, which administers the Empretec programme which trains aspiring entrepreneurs in developing countries, will hold a town hall meeting on “Women’s empowerment through entrepreneurship” on Wednesday, 14 November, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in Room XIV of the Palais des Nations.

The session will form part of a series of events planned for Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW).  The Geneva observance of GEW is being carried out by the United Nations community in collaboration with the Permanent Missions of Mexico and the United States.  Founded in 2008 by the Kauffman Foundation for entrepreneurship in the United States, Global Entrepreneurship Week is an international campaign that aims to give young people the confidence, skills, and ambition to create sustainable enterprises that have positive impacts on their communities.  In 2011, as many as 120 countries participated in the week with nearly 24,000 partner organizations.

Through its EMPRETEC programme, UNCTAD inspires entrepreneurs in developing countries to start and grow their businesses. With more than 20 years of experience, EMPRETEC has trained over 250,000 people in 34 countries to date.
