Launching of the BioTrade programme in Vietnam

The launching of the BioTrade Programme in Vietnam was organized on 15 - 16 May 2012 by the new member of the BioTrade family: Helvetas/Swiss Intercooperation – Vietnam. The National Institute of Medicinal Materials (NIMM) is the national partner that will also support the development of BioTrade in Vietnam.
 
 The objective of the event was to introduce the project as well as the BioTrade concept and network to beneficiary SMEs, government representatives, and academic sector, among others. A group of national and international experts shared their experiences in implementing BioTrade as well as developing natural ingredients value chains.
 
UNCTAD BioTrade was part of the international experts that participated in the event, particularly by delivering two presentations:
  • Understanding the BioTrade concept
  • Mechanisms and tools to improve market access
The activities in Vietnam are implemented with the kind support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) under the project "Development of BioTrade activities within the natural ingredients sector (Period 2012 - 2014)". The projects contributes to Vietnam becoming a recognized supplier of natural ingredient products traded through supply chains that conform to the principles of BioTrade and the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This project aims to support the development of value chains based on native the medicinal species which can be used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food sectors.
