Fourth Workshop of the Euro-Mediterranean Competition Forum (EMCF)

The EMCF is an informal network created in November 2012 with the objective to enhance cooperation in competition matters in the Mediterranean region. It is run by a Coordination Committee co-chaired by the Austrian and Moroccan Competition Authorities, including UNCTAD as a member. The Forum has so far held three workshops.

The first one at the margins of the 13th session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy (IGE) in Geneva on the 11 July 2013, which discussed competition advocacy (http://unctad.org/meeting/first-workshop-euro-mediterranean-competition-forum-emcf-competition-advocacy-euro).

The second workshop on the relationship between competition authorities and sector regulators was held in Tunis on 28-29 November 2013 (http://unctad.org/meeting/first-workshop-euro-mediterranean-competition…). The third workshop on the independence and accountability of competition authorities was held at the margins of the 14th session of the IGE in Geneva on 10 July 2013 (http://unctad.org/meeting/third-workshop-euro-mediterranean-competition-forum-emcf-independence-and-accountability).

The fourth workshop of the EMCF is organized by UNCTAD in cooperation with the Maltese and Austrian Competition Authorities. The Forum will hold three sessions where participants will discuss the future functioning of and expectations from the EMCF and its future work programme; impact assessment of competition law enforcement; and best strategies for young competition agencies.

Participants include the representatives and heads of competition authorities both from the north and south of the Mediterranean, including Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Egypt, Malta, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey, as well as experts from Switzerland. Speakers invited to share their experiences include:
