UNCTAD, as a world leader in the area of NTM statistics, is expanding and consolidating the data collection in different regions with the cooperation from various partners. UNCTAD has received the request by the Canada-Indonesia Trade and Private Sector Assistance (TPSA) to carry-out a four days training on the above subject during the third week of March 2016.
The overall objective of Indonesia-Canada Trade and Private Sector Assistance (TPSA) is to support high sustainable economic growth and reduce poverty in Indonesia through increased trade and trade-enabling investment between Indonesia and Canada.
The NTMs training and research guidance to The Trade Policy Analysis and Development Agency (TRECYDA) staff can help increase exports from Indonesia to its trading partners including Canada through NTMs identification that hinders the Indonesian exports to those countries. UNCTAD has collected and classified NTMs of many countries which will enable staff from TRECYDA to map the NTMs that are most important for Indonesian exports to its trading partners and to suggest possible negotiating positions for the Indonesian government to lower NTMs affecting Indonesian exports.
The training will be provided by staff from the Trade Information Section of the Trade Analysis Branch of the Division on International Trade in Goods and Services, and Commodities of UNCTAD. The training materials and agenda were built on the materials from the annual online training course on NTM and data collection held by UNCTAD. The trainers will also bring to the training course recent and practical case studies based on the data collection and classification of NTM in ASEAN, Australia, Canada, the USA and China.
