UNCTAD Briefing: Realizing trade potential to contribute to Sustainable Development.

15 April 2016
09:00 - 17:00 hrs. Room XXIII, Palais des Nations.
Geneva
, Switzerland

In the landscape of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), trade is expected to catalyse inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction, and contribute to the promotion of sustainable development.

But what does it entail to policy makers at the national level?

The recent UNCTAD report, “Trading into Sustainable Development”, tackles this question.

At the briefing to the UNCTAD member states, international organisations, and civil society, Division on International Trade of UNCTAD presents the key findings from the report. The presentation will be followed by interactive discussions on:

  • How do we assess complex linkages between trade and the determinants of “inclusive” economic growth and sustainable development?

  • In the face of possible structural shifts in trading environment, what should be the focus of the public-sector policymakers in ensuring trade’s contribution to inclusive economic growth and sustainable development?
