In the context of COMPAL's internship programme, officials from the consumer agencies of Chile (Sernac) and Uruguay (Mef) will visit the Mexican agency (Profeco) to learn on online dispute resolution and testing of consumer products to replicate them in their home countries.

Legal and ICT officers from Chile and Uruguay will attend this ad-hoc one-week internship to learn on two of the most successful consumer protection initiatives of Mexico: Concilianet (an online consumer conciliation platform) and the laboratory for testing consumer products. Both beneficiary agencies have presented a plan to replicate the knowledge learnt in their home agencies.
UNCTAD supports efforts from its member agencies to develop a regional online dispute resolution platform for consumer complaints from around Latin America to enhance market confidence and strengthen cross-border consumer protection. Another commendable proposal is to create a regional laboratory for consumer products, which would reduce transaction costs and enhance regional trade.
