UNCTAD speaks at the Conference on “Consumer Protection in a globalized world”

​UNCTAD will open the Conference on “Consumer Protection in a globalized world” on the issue of the united Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection.

Following the adoption of the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection by the General Assembly in resolution 70/186 of 22 December 2015, there is a growing academic interest in their implementation.
The San Martin de Porres University in Lima Peru hosts a think tank on Free Competition and Bureaucratic Barriers, convening the Conference on “Consumer Protection in a globalized world.”
 
The Conference on “Consumer Protection in a globalized world” will analyse the impact that the revised United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection bears on advancing the welfare of consumers worldwide.
UNCTAD will open the Conference presenting the value of the revised United Nations Guidelines from the perspective of public international law, and will introduce the context and consultations leading to the revision.

- The importance of the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection for the protection of consumers by Juliana Pereira, former National Secretary for Consumers, Brazil
- Consumer protection in a globalized era, some cases for reflection by Bernardo Altamirano, Former Federal Attorney for Consumers, Mexico.
- The implementation of the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection in Peru by Anahí Chávez, Director for Consumer Protection, Peru
