Biodiversity offers the cosmetics industry important opportunities to innovate and develop. However, biodiversity is being lost at alarming rates that unless halted, will have significant impacts on the industry and on consumers overall.
Notwithstanding the emergence of the natural and organic sector as the fastest growing cosmetic sector over the past years, awareness of the value and importance of biodiversity is still limited.
Under the framework of the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, international industry leaders will provide an important overview of how biodiversity is shaping up the industry regarding:
- Consumer awareness and expectations
- Sourcing and sustainable use requirements
- Bio-prospecting, innovation and intellectual property
- Regulations, standards and certification
