The Commission will provide the opportunity for member States and other stakeholders to discuss key trade and development issues related to building more resilient, sustainable and inclusive development.
Under agenda item 3(a), member States and other stakeholders will consider the reports of three multi-year expert meetings on:
- Transport, trade logistics and trade facilitation
- Commodities and development
- Trade, services and developmen
Under agenda item 3(b) there will be consideration of the report of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy.
Under agenda item 4, the Commission will consider the role of international trade in the post-2015 development agenda. It will explore how trade contributes towards economic growth and development and also map out the policy areas and flanking measures which could facilitate and enhance the role of trade as an enabler towards inclusive development. The discussion under this agenda item will also focus on how best to capture the development impact of trade in the post-2015 development agenda.
Under agenda item 5, the Commission will have the opportunity to discuss trends currently reshaping international transport and trade as well as cross-divisional capacity building. These include the growing importance of developing countries in the demand for maritime transport services, as well as their increasing market share in the supply of maritime business.
Other issues that may be examined include rising sustainability imperatives and climate change concerns, which are shaping transport policies and strategies of the future to ensure effective integration of developing countries into global transport and trading networks.
In terms of knowledge development, the Commission will discuss how to develop a sustainable local capacity in trade, investment and development issues, including on modern port management, as well as to provide capacity-building programmes for policymakers on the integrated treatment of trade, investment, finance, technology and development issues.
The Commission will also consider progress made in promoting and strengthening the synergies among the three pillars of UNCTAD's work in the areas covered by this Commission, under agenda item 6.
