On 16 June 1964 the first United Nations Conference on Trade and Development concluded with, among other outcomes, the proposed establishment of a permanent body to deal with issues of international trade and development, namely UNCTAD.

During this special session of 17 June 2014, members of the Trade and Development Board shall convene and celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of that historical decision.
