10 July 2014
14:30 - 05:30 hrs. Room XXVI (1st floor), Palais des Nations
Geneva
, Switzerland

The EMCF Workshop will deal with the Independence and Accountability of Competition Authorities, with Mr Steenbergen, Head of the Belgian Competition Authority, and Ms Eleanor Fox, Professor at New York University Faculty of Law, as invited experts.

The EMCF is an informal network created in November 2012 with the objective to enhance cooperation in Competition matters in the Mediterranean region. It is run by a Coordination Committee co-chaired by the Austrian and Moroccan Competition Authorities, including UNCTAD as a member. The Forum has already held two workshops: the first one in the margins of UNCTAD’s XIII Session of the IGE in Geneva on the 11th of July 2013, which focused on Competition Advocacy (http://unctad.org/meeting/first-workshop-euro-mediterranean-competition-forum-emcf-competition-advocacy-euro) and the second in Tunis on the 28th and 29th of November of 2013, which analysed the Relationship between Competition Authorities and Sector Regulators (http://unctad.org/meeting/first-workshop-euro-mediterranean-competition-forum-emcf-competition-advocacy-euro).

Competition Authorities and members of the Civil Society (NGAs) interested in Competition matters, from the region both North and South of the Mediterranean Sea, but also from elsewhere, are invited to participate and share their thoughts and experiences about the topic: Independence and Accountability of Competition Authorities.
