Seminar on graduation, the role of remittances and market access possibilities for Myanmar

28 - 29 October 2014
Nay Pyi Taw
, Myanmar

This Seminar is being organized at the request of Myanmar. As Myanmar may meet two out of three graduation criteria at the 2015 revision of the least developed countries (LDC) criteria, the country wants to be ready to graduate to middle-income status.

Assistance is therefore required to fully understand the graduation process and to adequately plan it by building the necessary productive capacities that would enable it to undertake structural changes and diversify its economy with a view of creating productive employment and reduce poverty.

As the graduation strategy needs to be well planned in order for the country to be ready when it occurs, the seminar also aims at providing Myanmar with the tools that would enable it to take full advantage of the existing market access possibilities for LDC, at the international and regional level, and to effectively use the financing resources available through traditional and innovative sources. In this context, the seminar is focusing on the role of remittances and diaspora for the development of Myanmar.
