A regional training course for countries members of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) on "International Investment Agreements: Negotiating for Sustainable Development" will take place from 12-15 January 2015 in Casablanca, Morocco.

The regional training course is organized by the UNCTAD Secretariat and the Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB) Investment Promotion Technical Assistance Program (ITAP), in cooperation with the Energy Charter Secretariat (ECS).

The course is addressed to officials dealing with investment (policymakers and negotiators) from IDB member countries. It will focus on how investment policies can work better for sustainable development and inclusive growth.

The general objective of the training course is to deepen the participants' understanding of International Investment Agreements (IIAs), to identify and examine key issues, problems and interests and ensure that the sustainable development dimension of IIAs is adequately addressed.

The content of the training course is mainly based on UNCTAD's Investment Policy Framework for Sustainable Development (IPFSD), which will also serve as the background material.

The course is part of an ongoing programme of cooperation between UNCTAD and IDB on issues related to IIAs and investor-State dispute settlement that started in 2007.
