Making the Sustainable Development Goals Work:
Harnessing Trade, Investment and Technology for Sustainable Development

United Nations Headquarters"Prosperity for All" is the motto underlying UNCTAD's work.

UNCTAD believes that sustainable development goals can only be achieved by addressing the economic, trade, investment, finance and technology enablers for each goal and target in an integrated manner.

Drawing on its extensive analytical and technical expertise, UNCTAD supports member States in the formulation of sustainable development strategies.

As the post-2015 development agenda and financing for development processes are now underway, UNCTAD hopes this event can contribute to the thinking on adequate and coherent policies to deliver on sustainable development goals.

The UNCTAD event takes advantage of the presence of experts on means of implementation to provide member States, other United Nations agencies and relevant stakeholders an opportunity to deepen the discussion from the high-level thematic debate and to exchange ideas and views on how to make sustainable development goals work.

The President of the 69th session of the General Assembly, Ambassador Sam Kutesa, will offer opening remarks to bridge the two events.

Objectives:

  • Clarify the role of trade and related issues of investment, finance and technology in achieving a meaningful transformation of economies.

  • Deepen discussions on revitalizing the global partnership in support of national sustainable development efforts through trade.

  • Gain a better understanding from member States and civil society on how UNCTAD, in collaboration with other organizations, can help countries to harness interlinkages between sustainable development goals and to monitor progress.

Participation:

The event is open to all Member States and interested civil society organizations.
