, Zimbabwe

The Training Workshops for staff members and Commissioners of the Zimbabwe Competition and Tariff Commission falls within UNCTAD's capacity building activities for effective competition law and policy enforcement within the larger European Union funded Trade and Private Sector Development Programme aiming at supporting economic recovery and diversification, and poverty reduction in Zimbabwe. Training of staff and Commissioners is one of the recommendations of the Tripartite Peer Review of competition law and policy of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe carried out by UNCTAD in 2012.

The objective of these training workshops is to strengthen the enforcement capacities of the staff and Commissioners and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between them and competition experts from other countries and regional competition authorities.

The training workshop for CTC staff will be held from 9 to 11 February 2015. Experts with competition enforcement experience from Kenya, UK, Zambia and UNCTAD will conduct this workshop. The training workshop for CTC Commissioners will be held on 12-13 February 2015. Experts with competition enforcement experience from Kenya, South Africa, UK, Zambia, COMESA and UNCTAD will conduct the workshop.

These training workshops are implemented within a European Union funded project. For these workshops, UNCTAD also received contributions from the IFUSE programme of UK DFID and the Competition Authority of Kenya, which sponsored the participation of three experts, two from the UK Competition and Markets Authority and one from the Competition Authority of Kenya.
