15 - 19 June 2015
North-West University
Potchefstroom
, South Africa

The Virtual Institute, in cooperation with the UNCTAD Trade, Gender and Development Section, will hold a regional workshop on trade and gender analysis for sub-Saharan Africa researchers June 15-19.

Funded by the Government of Finland, the workshop will be hosted by Vi South African member, the North-West University, at its Potchefstroom Campus.

The objective of the workshop is to provide participants with the knowledge needed to undertake their own analysis of the two-way relationship between trade and gender with the aim of producing gender-aware policy recommendations. To this end, the training reviews in detail the three main methodologies - macroeconomic, microeconomic and sectoral - used to analyze the trade-gender relationship, introduces the relevant econometric techniques, and allows the participants to practice through hands-on exercises.

After the workshop, interested participants will have the opportunity to apply for support from UNCTAD in the development of research papers on trade and gender issues of policy relevance to their countries using the methods taught at the workshop. A limited number of such research proposals will be granted financial support and receive mentoring from UNCTAD.

The deadline for applications, including submission of required documents (online application form, CV and nomination letter from the candidate's institution) and entry test, is 17 April 2015 (11 pm Geneva time). Participants will be advised of their selection by 27 April 2014.
