UNCTAD will conduct an IIA training course for countries with economies in transition on "Reforming the International Investment Regime" from 28 to 30 September in Minsk, Belarus (download programme). The course is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Economy and the National Agency of Investment and Privatization.
The training course is targeted at government officials in charge of the negotiation of investment treaties and the management of investor-State disputes as well as government officials working in the area of international and national investment policies, including investment promotion.
The content of the regional training course will be based on UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2015 – Chapter IV: "Reforming the International Investment Regime" and UNCTAD’s Investment Policy Framework for Sustainable Development (2015 version). The training course will include sessions on key issues in IIAs (such as most-favoured-nation treatment, fair and equitable treatment, expropriation and investment dispute settlement) and group exercises, discussions and time for the sharing of experiences.
Participating beneficiary countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Tajikistan, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Uzbekistan.
