This workshop was designed to educate Kenyan stakeholder on the full range of flexibilities available under the TRIPS Agreement to improve access to medicines in Kenya. Participants have strong influence in the policy making process for access to medicines in Kenya.
The workshop consisted of seven sessions of lectures and discussions on WTO negotiations, TRIPS flexibilities & obligations and Kenya´s national Industrial Property Law, Kenyan experiences on the use of TRIPS flexibilities, drug registration, licensing agreements, and WHO/IGWG negotiations.
The lectures were given by international and national experts on intellectual property rights, including two of the graduates from the first UNCTAD workshop on TRIPS & Public Health held in Addis Ababa (March 2007). During a round up and way forward discussion the participants agreed on a list of recommendations for use as a roadmap for future action on drugs regulation and IP related issues in Kenya.
