Key Issues

This year´s session will address two main themes:

  • Promoting investment for development: Best practices in strengthening investment in basic infrastructure in developing countries

  • Enhancing productive capacities for development, including through strengthened entrepreneurship policies and improved science and innovation policies

The Commission will allow policymakers, investment promotion agencies and the private sector to exchange experiences and views during the presentation of the Investment Policy Review of Guatemala.

It will also discuss the implementation of the Investment Policy Reviews for Ethiopia and the United Republic of Tanzania, and an update of implementation progress concerning administrative efficiency in previous Investment Policy Reviews.

Notification

The third session of the Investment, Enterprise and Development Commission will be held from 2 to 6 May 2011. It will open at 10 a.m. on Monday, 2 May, in Room XXVI of the Palais des Nations, Geneva.

The Commission will provide the opportunity for member States and investment and development stakeholders to discuss key and emerging issues and their development implications, as well as policy solutions.

This year´s session will address two main themes:

  2. Enhancing productive capacities for development, including through strengthened entrepreneurship policies and improved science and innovation policies.

This Commission will also allow policymakers, investment promotion agencies and the private sector to exchange experiences and views during the presentations of the investment policy reviews of Guatemala and the review of the implementation reports of the investment policy reviews of Ethiopia and the United Republic of Tanzania.

Membership of the Commission is open to all States members of UNCTAD. States members of UNCTAD wishing to attend the session are requested to provide the UNCTAD secretariat with the credentials of their representatives and the names of their alternate representatives and advisers by 18 April 2011.

Specialized agencies and intergovernmental bodies wishing to participate in the meeting, investment promotion agencies, and non-governmental organizations in the general category and those in the special category who wish to participate as observers, are requested to inform the UNCTAD secretariat of the names of their representatives by the same date.

Upon arrival, participants are requested, before entering the Palais des Nations, to collect their badges from the United Nations Security Service, Pregny Gate entrance, 14 Avenue de la Paix. The Security Service is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Because of the security measures in force, participants are strongly advised to arrive before 9 a.m. in order to complete entry procedures in good time and proceed to the meeting in the E-Building (Bâtiment E) of the Palais. Participants are requested to carry a passport or similar national identity card with them. Taxis are not allowed to enter the grounds of the Palais des Nations; visitors will therefore be dropped off at the requested entrance gates. Furthermore, luggage may not be brought into the buildings unless the Security Service gives special clearance.
