UNCTAD-FAO-IFOAM Global Organic Market Access project: Asia Working Group on Framework for Cooperation on Organic Labelling and Trade
26 - 27 September 2011
Riviera Hotel
Seoul

Key Issues

The working group aims to boost regional trade in Asian organic agricultural products by creating a framework for cooperation on organic trade among the countries in East, South-east and South Asia.

In this framework, differing organic regulations among the countries will not impede trade and trade of products from non-regulating countries are also supported.

The Working Group includes high-level government officials and key private sector representatives from East, South-East and South Asia.

The Working Group is organized in the framework of the UNCTAD/FAO/IFOAM Global Organic Market Access (GOMA) project, which aims to support market access and reduce trade barriers for organic agricultural products through harmonization, equivalence and other forms of cooperation on standards and conformity assessment.

A main focus of GOMA is on the rapidly developing organic sectors in East, South-East and South Asia.

The Working Group meeting is held in conjunction with the 17th IFOAM Organic World Congress in Gyeonggi Paldang, Republic of Korea (26 September - 5 October 2011)
