Preparatory Committee for UNCTAD XIII: Hearing with civil society and the private sector

Key Issues

​A hearing with civil society and the private sector will be convened in Geneva on Wednesday, 7 March 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as part of the Preparatory Committee for UNCTAD XIII.

The objective of the hearing is to provide an opportunity for dialogue and an exchange of views among representatives of UNCTAD member States and non-state actors on issues relevant to the theme and sub-themes of UNCTAD XIII.
The agenda of the hearing will focus on the UNCTAD XIII sub-themes:
  • Enhancing the enabling economic environment at all levels in support of inclusive and sustainable development.
  • Strengthening all forms of cooperation and partnerships for trade and development, including North-South, South-South and triangular cooperation.
  • Addressing persistent and emerging development challenges as related to their implications for trade and development and interrelated issues in the areas of finance, technology, investment and sustainable development.
  • Promoting investment, trade, entrepreneurship and related development policies to foster sustained economic growth for sustainable and inclusive development.

The outcome of the hearing will be finalized as a summary report of the Preparatory Committee for the Conference.
UNCTAD member States, organizations having observer status with UNCTAD and those accredited to UNCTAD XIII and its preparatory process are encouraged to participate.
