Implemented over the period 1998-1999 in response to a request by the Palestinian Authority, this project involved the preparation of a feasibility study on the establishment of an industrial estate in the West Bank city of Nablus.
The study, which was financed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), outlined a master plan for guiding the construction of the envisaged industrial estate. It also provided a detailed cost-benefit analysis of both off-site and on-site infrastructure needs, with a view to maximize site development potential.
The study strikes a balance between minimizing environmental impact and providing for the needs of industries seeking accommodation for expansion, relocation or new business ventures.
Subject to the outcome of further consultations and availability of resources, UNCTAD could offer further technical assistance in this area.
