09 Mar 11 - Meeting the Millenium Development Goals in the Least Developed Countries
Where are we on attaining the Millenium Development Goals? How has the financial crisis affected progress? Will they be reached in the Least Developed Countries?
These questions are addressed in a two-part video, published by the UNCTAD Virtual Institute.
In the first of this two-part video presentation, Richard Kozul-Wright, of UNCTAD's Unit on Economic Cooperation and Integration among Developing Countries, traces the origins of the MDGs and ponders social, economic and governance questions arising from efforts to achieve them.
In the second presentation, Giovanni Valensisi, of UNCTAD's Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes, tracks the progress toward attaining the MDGs globally and in the LDCs, presents the outlook after the financial crisis, and reviews lessons learned.
