Mr. Richard Terrell Miller, Ambassador and US Representative to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, co-chaired a roundtable breakfast to discuss the importance of entrepreneurship and its role in job creation and poverty reduction.
The roundtable breakfast was attended by over 50 high-level representatives from ECOSOC member states, civil society, private organizations, the UN and various other international organisations.
Ambassador Miller opened the event by discussing the importance of entrepreneurship and its role in job creation and poverty reduction. Citing successful programmes such as UNCTAD's EMPRETEC, he challenged event participants to strengthen their commitment to promoting entrepreneurship development in their countries.
Participants left the event enthusiastic about the possibility of partnerships and collaborations between the various members. The idea of creating an "Entrepreneurship Week" within the worldwide EMPRETEC network in cooperation with the Kaufmann Foundation is already being discussed.
